Instrumental /Solo/Duets/Quartets/Small Ensemble
Warring Minds (2006) written for Violin Duet. This composition is drawn from ideas of current wars occurring in the world. It is a musical expression of the composers’ observation of two individual minds at war. (Received the 2006 ASME Young Composers Competition Tertiary Section)
“Two minds exist in two different places. Each has an individual opinion on how the world should be. Through the need to prove that one view is just, and the other is iniquitous, destructive actions are taken causing a reaction, eventually spiralling into a chaotic frenzy leaving both sides staring at a reflection of the other. When money has finally been spent, lands annihilated, and lives are destroyed, we finally hear the voice of the innocent. Those caught in the line of fire, amongst the chaos and torture created to prove someone else is right, or wrong. The voice and sound of millions, who can only just be heard faintly amongst the egotistical, power hungry leaders on either side who swear they will make the world a better place, and that the only way to resolve conflict is war.” –Rachel Merton.
Reflections
(2006) for piano and Violin. Inspired
by Spiegel im Spiegel composed by Arvo Pärt, Reflections takes on
a similar structure where the violin performs a sustained melody which increases
in length with each phrase, always returning to the note C until the cycle is
completed. The Piano creates an atmosphere of stillness whilst driving the
composition forward with each development in the accompaniment. (Received
the 2006 Advanced Composition Award in the National Keys Festival)
Fragments of a Spirit
(2006) for
piano solo is inspired by the idea of the universal energy of existence broken
up into various fragments and through each different fragment all thing sin
creation are connected to the same energy source. The work captures this idea
through the fragmentation of the melody, slowly drawing together and pulling
away yet still being apart of one whole.
Struggles of the Mind (2000) is a string quartet in three movements. Each represent an aspect of the mind. The first is the Conscious, the second the Subconscious and the third is Cogitate, which means to think or ponder.
Jagged
Rocks (2004)
Inspired by Peter Sculthorpes’ ‘Mangroves’, Jagged Rocks creates a similar semi
quaver pattern through out the piece. This string quartet was written in
commemoration of Peter Sculthorpes’ Birthday and orchestral performance at the
Queensland Conservatorium of Music.
Orchestral and Large Ensemble
Redlands (2004)
commissioned by the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra Inc. The work is 10minutes in
length and is divided into three movements. Each movement draws upon the
environment and atmosphere of the Redlands in South East Queensland , creating a
musical celebration of the area whilst showcasing the talents of the Cleveland
Symphony Orchestra.
Discord (2002)
was written for an orchestral workshop
whilst studying. Various colours and melodies were used to create a short
but sweet collage of sounds.
Angular World (2001) images of the crashing ocean, jagged edges, views of the world on different angles and perceptions. Angular world is a melodic expression of thoughts.

Electroacoustic /Ambient/Sound scapes/Electro Synth
Distracted Meditation (2006) an Electronic Sound Scape. Rather than writing a meditation track of which there are hundreds of, this composition reflects the inability to enter a deep meditative state. Meditation allows us to connect with our inner selves and learn from within. Many find this impossible to achieve as the distractions of day to day events continuously enter the mind putting any attempts of focus off centre. The work has a relaxing atmospheric sound scape which is rudely interrupted on occasions by thoughts, voices, and other musical ideas, which stop the individual from ever reaching the goal of stillness.
A Page (2006)
has been written for Electronic Sound Scape and Spoken Word. Inspiration was
gained by the sounds of Bjork and Brian Eno, and the text given to the composer
written by Stefanie Petrik entitled A Page. A rhythmic and driven work
was created, where the poetry would then be read along with the track, and
visual media created to accompany the music.
Lost it (2006) has been written for Electronic Sound Scape and Spoken Word. Text given to the composer written by Stefanie Petrik entitled Lost It inspired the composer to write a sound scape which allowed room for the poetry to be expressed yet contributed to the intensity and desired mood of the work. Visual media by Stefanie Petrik was then created to accompany the music.
Missing You Here on Earth (2006) is an Electric Acoustic composition for Flute and Sound Scape on CD. The ethereal and atmospheric sounds of the composition were inspired by the music of Brian Eno. Neither flute, sound scape is more important than they other; all three work off each other to create the desired mood and setting.
Synth Symphony (2006)
Stepping outside the usual genres I
tried my hand at a more mainstream yet classical style of electro music.
Synth Symph is a short composition where I experimented with the sounds in
the program Reason 3.
